Abstract
This paper was written before the concept of Physical Literacy was developed. It covers the philosophical ground that formed the platform for the development of the concept. The paper also argues for respect to be shown for work in the physical domain and argues that philosophers of education such as Paul Hirst and Richard Peters were wrong to omit this human dimension in their recommendations for the educational experiences of young people.
