Breaking Barriers: IPLA in Indian Language

Physical literacy as a concept has grown significantly in India in last one decade. A lot of Indian practitioners and academicians had shown interest in doing IPLA’s courses. While IPLA education and training team conducts regular courses in English, there was a demand in India to deliver courses in local language. Seeing this interest, IPLA India team delivered foundation and development courses in local language. Course were also toned with Indian context. IPLA India trainers, Dr Sonali Talavlikar and Dr Amit Malik led the delivery of the courses. 9 participants joined in each course. Courses were discussions, reflections and action based. Participants had very positive feedback about the courses and showed interest to be part of future courses/discussions. Delivery in local language ensured clear understanding, easy discussions and context relatability. IPLA India team is happy to make this positive start and plan to deliver more courses in future in local languages.

Main Highlights: Highlight of the course was participants sharing their unique physical literacy journeys and discussing others journey. That really helped all participants to connect with physical literacy concept. Participants could connect to holistic nature of physical literacy concept and improving their understanding of physical literacy in terms of FMS, fitness, sport skills.

Lessons Learned: Participants developed their individual actions plans during the courses. They also had an individual task of unwrapping physical literacy through life journey understanding of their family/friends/relative/community members. They reflected that courses really enhanced their understanding of physical literacy concept.

Next Steps: Organise train-the-trainer course so that participants can progress as trainer.
