CEREPS SUMMIT – Munster, Germany June 19th – July 1st, 2026

By Nigel Green, Chair of IPLA

Nigel, in collaboration with Biljana Popeska and the EUPEA team have been working on a Quality Physical Education (QPE) document for over a year now and it will be shared publicly within the next few months. The paper has allowed experienced PE professionals to consider all relevant material about QPE and formulate guidance for European schools. As this project developed, it was quite clear that physical literacy underpinned QPE and as the President of CEREPA – Roland Naul, was present at one of the meetings, he invited Nigel and Biljana to share the process and how PL is threaded through QPE.

The THRIVE acronym has been used from a physical literacy perspective as it highlights the agreed key principles of PL and as you can see from the post. The poster also indicates how Sustainable Development Goals and Inner Development Goals are addressed through QPE. The final section indicates what this means for teachers in their practice.

The QPE document, which is being produced by EUPEA, will be released shortly, along with a poster infographic. The intention of EUPEA is then to provide a series of webinars which allow PE teachers from different countries to exemplify how they are providing QPE. This will then also provide a series of case studies that can be shared.
