Have you ever wondered how our physical experiences shape who we are, how we grow, and how we thrive? A new PhD research project at the University of Bedfordshire is diving deep into this question—exploring how meaningful physical activity, physical literacy, and human flourishing are interconnected. And we’re inviting professionals like you to share your insights!
Why This Study Matters
We know that moving our bodies isn’t just about fitness or sport. Meaningful physical activity can inspire confidence, build connections, and help individuals of all ages flourish in their lives. But how exactly do these experiences link with concepts like physical literacy—the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life—and human flourishing, our capacity to grow and thrive?
This study seeks to bridge these ideas. By listening to voices from education, research, and professional practice, the project aims to build a conceptual framework that could influence future policies, programmes, and approaches that promote well-being.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking to interview experienced professionals who are passionate about this topic—people like:
-
Physical Education teachers and Sports Coaches
-
Researchers (beyond Early Career stage) who’ve published on these topics
-
Representatives from professional associations (e.g. physical literacy or positive psychology organisations)
-
Those with at least 5 years of practice, teaching, or research in these fields
Your knowledge could make a meaningful contribution to shaping how future generations engage with physical activity in a way that supports well-being and human development.
What Participation Involves
Joining this study means taking part in a semi-structured interview—either online or in person—lasting about 45 to 60 minutes. We’ll explore your experiences, insights, and perspectives on how meaningful physical activity, physical literacy, and human flourishing intersect in your work.
All interviews will be audio-recorded and transcribed, with your data handled securely and confidentially. Your identity will remain anonymous in any publications or presentations arising from the research.
Why Take Part?
By sharing your expertise, you’ll be helping to develop ideas that could shape future initiatives in education, health, and community well-being. This is a chance to contribute to important conversations about how physical activity can support individuals and communities to flourish.
Your Privacy and Choice
Participation is completely voluntary. You can withdraw at any time up to 28 days after your interview, and all data will be securely deleted if you choose to do so. All data will be anonymised and securely stored according to GDPR guidelines.
Get Involved
If this study speaks to your interests and expertise, I’d love to hear from you. Together, we can explore how physical activity enriches lives and helps people thrive.
