Uncovering the Social Value of Sport

SRA Document: Uncovering the Social Value of Sport

This recent document from The Sport and Recreation Alliance comprises 7 papers from a range of writers, each from a particular background. In total it includes a range of useful topics for discussion, not least ideas that are relevant to the promotion of physical literacy. I would welcome observations on this document. The general policy of IPLA is to build from documents, such as this, underwriting sections that are welcomed and proposing further consideration of sections that could develop a fuller relationship to physical literacy.

The document can be found on the SRA website www.sportandrecreation.org.uk

From my perspective, an example of issues I would develop are:-
• applauding the notion of the participant being centre stage
• endorsing the importance of practitioner manner in working with participants
• opening a debate centred on Tanni Grey-Thompson’s reference to physical activity
