BREAKS – Building Resilience through Equitable Active Kinaesthetic Sessions

By Vassiliki Riga, IPLA Country Lead for Greece

Introduction:
Running from December 2024 to November 2026, BREAKS aims to equip primary and lower secondary schoolteachers with the skills to design and deliver inclusive movement breaks. These short activity sessions promote physical and mental well-being, support learning, and foster inclusion across diverse student populations.

Objectives:

  • Train teachers to use movement breaks effectively.
  • Develop an online platform with resources and space for collaboration.
  • Support implementation of active breaks in classrooms.
  • Raise awareness among school leaders on the benefits of movement in education.
  • Ensure broad dissemination and long-term impact across Europe.

The project is coordinated by the University of Patras (Greece) with partners:

  • University of Rome “Foro Italico” (Italy)
  • University of Niš – Faculty of Sport and Physical Education (Serbia)
  • INQUIRIUM Ltd (Cyprus)
  • Stimmuli for Social Change (Greece)
  • Infinitivity Design Labs (France)

What’s Next?
Each partner is forming local focus groups to shape the training programme based on real classroom needs. Pilots and platform development will follow in 2025. Stay tuned and get involved!
